Das Kapital Biography:
Fresh from winning the Best EDM Record award at the inaugural DMASA (Dance Music Award South Africa) for his single Bend It, which ended up in the Top 75 Biggest Tracks of 2017, Das Kapital’s release schedule for 2018 looks set to build on his success on both a national and international basis.
The Hit The Club EP, a collaboration with Dutch legend Bart B More, is released in March on This Ain’t Bristol. Already being supported by Billy Kenny, the release looks set to become a big track for 2018.
Time Machine, forthcoming on Night Shift Sound, is set for release in April and both releases follow up Das Kapital’s remix of Radioactive Rhythm by fellow South African producer Haezer on German label Mähtrasher, out in February.
March also sees the release of Das Kapital Presents Overtime 2 on his label Do Work Records. A follow up to 2016’s original Overtime compilation, it features artists as diverse as Strange Loving, Haezer & Holly feat Miki San, D_Know, Master Simz, Sam Mkhize, plus Das Kapital’s own remix of South African hit You Gotta by Evida.
He also continues to present his 3 hour, weekly national radio show every Sunday on 5FM called In Das We Trust. Nominated for Best Radio Show at the DMASA Award, the show brings the very best worldwide talent to the airwaves; previous guests have included Noisia, Plastician, Bontan, Krafty Kuts, My Nu Leng, Rude Boyz, Joe Ford, Murder He Wrote, Chee, Roska, AC Slater, Christian Martin and Night Shift Sound to name but a few. 2017 also saw the first Drum & Bass Special put together whereby Roni Size, Uncle Dugs, Fabio & Kier, the owner of Shogun Audio, were interviewed and brought mixes to the air to showcase old and new in the genre.
As he explained to People Magazine SA:
“I want to show South Africa the best dance music on offer, across the board, because we’ve proven time and again how committed we are to the music. I hope to introduce my listeners to new genres and artists, whilst easing them into the new week. We have incredible local and international guests lined up already, so now it’s just down to showing everyone what I’m about, and what makes In Das We Trust such a special show!”
The show is a culmination of 6 years radio experience where he has focused on the local and international Dance and Electronic scenes. In addition Das Kapital also presents the Ultimix every Thursday night from 6pm on 5FM.
As one of the biggest DJs in South Africa Das Kapital also continues to headline festivals and club nights across the country, bringing a party vibe allied with his excellent technical skills. His brilliant DJ sets, crowd reading ability and infectious energy ensure that nobody is left unmoved.
Headline sets at Namibian, Zimbabwean and UK festivals have brought these skills to an international audience. Plett Rage, Rage Durban, Oppikoppi, Rocking The Daisies, Grietfest, Sonar Cape Town, Splashy Fen, Boat Race, Mad Decent Block Party, Synergy and Ultra South Africa have all seen the devastation that his skills can cause.
2017 also saw his Do Work Records break through into national success with Evida’s You Gotta, Garcon’s All Night with Nicole Solomon and Meant To Be with Joanna Cooke, all being playlisted on national and local radio stations across South Africa. Other singles by Hendrik Joerges with Astryd Brown and Irinami also proved popular.
RVWR with his production of All Hail by Khuli Chana; D_Know with 6 local and international Techno releases and a Top 10 in Traxsource Techno chart; and Tyron Woods with his work on the worldwide Phillips Hue Ad, all made moves from the Do Work family too.
Previously playlisted recordings by Das Kapital include BrainBang, Fade To Light with Kahn (Parlotones); remixed acts include Passion Froot, Master Simz, Bronze Whale, Nick Thayer, Laidback Luke, Corderoy, Sandro Silva, Rob Zombie, The Only, Royal K, Beatenberg and Drumsound & Bassline Smith ft Hadouken.
Das Kapital has also written music for films such as 21 Jump Street and US TV shows.
Destiny Magazine named Das Kapital as one of their Top 40 South Africans to follow up GQ Magazine naming him as one of South Africa’s 35 Coolest People Under 35. The Mail & Guardian also named him in their prestigious Top 200 Young South Africans and he has contributed as a speaker to TEDxUCT in Cape Town.
He is also a brand ambassador for Roland SA and works with Nokia in South Africa
