Magazine Top 40 South Africans November 2015
With his recent single Bend It being supported by Avicii, Tommy Trash, Dyro, Treasure Fingers, Bart B More, gLAdiator & Taiki Nulight, and Sander Kleinenberg among others, 2017 has seen Das Kapital remind everyone of his production skills and ability both locally in South Africa and internationally.
GQ Magazine featured him in their April 2017 edition; InDasWeTrust, his 3 hour national 5FM radio show, has continued to build in popularity and success leading to his additional new Ultimix residency every Thursday night from 6pm; and Do Work Records has built in success with two national Top 10 releases in 2017 alone.
These add to his 40+ interviews globally at the end of 2016, his TV appearances on South Africa’s Hectic-9 Nine (3 million+ viewers) and Expresso (1 million+ and SABC3’s breakfast show), and the release of the Das Kapital Presents Overtime compilation.
InDasWeTrust just passed it’s first birthday and the radio show has seen a roll call of guests including Bontan, My Nu Leng, Noisia, Krafty Kuts, Night Shift Sound, Bart B More, Chee, Rude Boyz, Joe Ford, Murder He Wrote, and many others join Das Kapital for mixes and interviews.
The show is a culmination of 5 years radio experience where he has focussed on the local and international Dance and Electronic scenes.
As he explained to People Magazine SA:
“I want to show South Africa the best dance music on offer, across the board, because we’ve proven time and again how committed we are to the music. I hope to introduce my listeners to new genres and artists, whilst easing them into the new week. We have incredible local and international guests lined up already, so now it’s just down to showing everyone what I’m about, and what makes In Das We Trust such a special show!”
Production wise Das Kapital is no stranger to the airwaves with his single BrainBang and collaboration with Kahn from the Parlotones called Fade To Light having both been playlisted. His remix of Passion Froot’s Room 4 One More was made Track of the Day and premiered by USA blog Insomniac with the track’s video having 100,00 views. It was also made number 8 on the Music Week Urban Charts gaining support from Chuckie, Swanky Tunes, Oliver Heldens and Charlie Hedges on their radio shows. He also remixed Master Simz for Scuf Records, and finally released Do Azid on the Overtime compilation on his label Do Work Records.
Das Kapital has also remixed Bronze Whale, Nick Thayer, Laidback Luke, Corderoy, Sandro Silva, Rob Zombie (one of the biggest artists remixed by a South African Dance Music producer at that time), The Only, Royal K, Beatenberg, Drumsound & Bassline Smith ft Hadouken; he also wrote music for 21 Jump Street and US TV shows The compilation marked a return to releases for Do Work Records which has since seen the label release national Top 5 records by Evida and Garcon, with the recent release by Hendrik Joerges and Astryd Brown also gaining traction.
Do Work Records is proving itself an incubator of South African electronic talent and aside from Evida, Garcon and Hendrik Joerges, other artists in the stable include D_Know who has released EPs on GND (Germany), ARTS (Italy), East Recordings (UK) and Recode (UK), Tyron Woods and RVWR.
Das Kapital still has releases lined up with Night Shift Sound, Corderoy, work with Murder He Wrote on Love Sick Recordings, collaborations with Bart B More, South African acts Shortstraw and Jack Parow, and a compilation with Top Billin’ from Finland.
As one of the biggest DJs in South Africa Das Kapital also continues to headline festivals and club nights across the country, bringing a party vibe allied with his excellent technical skills. His brilliant DJ sets, crowd reading ability and infectious energy ensure that nobody is left unmoved.
Headline sets at Namibian, Zimbabwean and UK festivals have brought these skills to an international audience.
Plett Rage, Rage Durban, Oppikoppi, Rocking The Daisies, Grietfest, Sonar Cape Town, Splashy Fen, Boat Race, Mad Decent Block Party, Synergy and Ultra South Africa have all seen the devastation that his skills can cause.
As owner of Do Work Records he has been heavily involved in bringing through the next generation of South African electronic talent. Artists include the South African chart topping Hendrik Joerges, D_Know who has released EPs on GND (Germany), ARTS (Italy), East Recordings (UK) and Recode (UK), Tyron Woods, Leechi, RVWR and Garcon.
Destiny Magazine named Das Kapital as one of their Top 40 South Africans to follow up GQ Magazine naming him as one of South Africa’s 35 Coolest People Under 35. The Mail & Guardian also named him in their prestigious Top 200 Young South Africans and he has contributed as a speaker to TEDxUCT in Cape Town.
He is also a brand ambassador for Puma, Roland SA, and RayBan in South Africa.
